PRESS RELEASE
“Public Health Advocates appreciates the State of California’s leadership in challenging recent federal actions that continue to threaten critical public health funding.
While a federal court has temporarily paused the most recent federal funding cuts to public health, continued instability and unpredictability make it difficult for public health organizations and local partners to plan responsibly and sustain essential services. The ripple effects impact California’s public health system. Public Health Advocates has directly experienced the disruption caused by this uncertainty, including abrupt operational adjustments with traumatic impacts on our staff and communities. Even short-term disruptions have dramatic effects, as they halt direct services, delay prevention and intervention efforts, and force organizations to redirect limited resources to manage sudden reductions in staff and revenue. The burden of the cascading effects is most deeply felt by the community members and staff who are left without the resources they rely on to make ends meet.
Public health infrastructure depends on stable, predictable investment so families can count on uninterrupted critical services. While ongoing federal actions continue to create uncertainty for public health programs nationwide, Public Health Advocates remains committed to protecting the health and well-being of Californians through community engagement and policy advocacy. Protecting these programs is essential to preserving years of hard-won progress and continuing to advance healthier, more equitable communities across California.”
