Healthy-By-Default Kids’ Meal Drinks Bill

Governor Brown signs SB 1192!

California’s Healthy-by-Default Kids’ Meal Drinks Law

SB 1192 – California Healthy-by-Default Kids’ Meal Drinks makes a healthy beverage—water or milk—the default beverage for children’s combo meals instead of sugary drinks. Signed by Governor Brown on September 20, 2018, SB 1192 was authored by Senator Bill Monning (SD-17) and co-sponsored by the American Heart Association, Latino Coalition for a Healthy California, MomsRising, Public Health Advocates and YMCA. The law goes into effect on January 1, 2019, and helps make it easier for parents to provide healthy drink options to their children while eating outside the home. It will help children form better eating and drinking habits that they will carry throughout their lifetimes.
