We are pleased to report that the four soda tax measures on local ballots in California and Colorado are passing with overwhelming support. In the San Francisco Bay Area of California, voters chose children’s health over a $30 million false advertising campaign promulgated by the American Beverage Association. The CA measures are passing by 60.7% in Oakland, 61.9% in San Francisco , and 70.7% in Albany. Each measure will levy a tax of one penny per ounce on sugar sweetened drinks to be paid by beverage distributors.
The Boulder, CO tax is passing with 54.7% of votes and levies a two penny per ounce tax on soda distributors. The Boulder campaign cost $19 million, a record high in that city.
