At Public Health Advocates, we promote health and eliminate health disparities by transforming neighborhoods into places that nurture well-being.
Our Vision:
We believe everyone has the right to be healthy.
We believe good public policy can make health a reality for everyone.
We believe neighborhoods should be places where physical, social, and economic conditions nurture health and well-being.
OUR PASSION
Discovering what makes people sick.
Our staff, volunteers and donors work every day to understand and change the things in our neighborhoods and schools that make people sick. Whether its poor community design, youth disenfranchisement, limited access to healthy food, or institutional racism, we shine a light on problems and we push for change.
Achieving improved health for all groups, especially communities that are traditionally left behind.
Frankly, the issues we face are tough. We fight diseases that have many causes, devastate quality of life and are directly linked to the injustice of health inequities. We seek to close health gaps between groups and lift up the health and well-being of all people.
Working strategically.
We know that TOGETHER we can beat diseases like diabetes by making our neighborhoods and schools healthier places for children to grow. Since 1999, we have fueled change through broad resident empowerment, compelling community data, sophisticated use of the media, and bold political action.
Fostering success.
We join with people of all different ages, ethnicities and incomes (people just like you) as they stand up and speak out, telling government leaders how to turn their schools and neighborhoods into centers of well-being instead of promotors of injustice and disease. And you know what? Leaders across the state and nation are starting to taking action.
Finding inspiration every day.
We are inspired by the ability of everyday people to change the world. We hope that inspires you, too. Please explore our website – you can learn what inspires each of our staff members, download our research findings, learn about our landmark programs, and follow the legislation we are supporting.
